Chronology of events where the pilot and co-pilot fell asleep while the plane was flying in the skies of Jakarta. The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee or KNKT revealed an incident where the batik pilot and co-pilot fell asleep. While flying an Airbus A320 on the Kendari – Jakarta route on January 25 2024.

The pilot fell asleep for 28 minutes after takeoff at 8.37 West Indonesia Time at an altitude of 36,000 feet. The copilot, who felt sleepy, decided to sleep after being offered a rest by the pilot. The pilot then assumes copilot duties.

At around 04.30 in the morning the pilot was still making initial contact with Jakarta air traffic control. One minute later the pilot fell asleep. After the pilot had been asleep for about 28 minutes he woke up and realized that the plane was not on the right track. Namely targeting the sky around Cianjur Sukabumi, West Java.

Then the pilot woke up the co-pilot and responded to a call from the Jakarta area control center and the plane returned to the correct route.
