Ecuador’s Most Wanted Prisoner The Leader Of The Los Koneros Criminal Group

Ecuador’s most wanted prisoner, the leader of the Los Koneros criminal group, has disappeared from prison. Ecuador declares a state of emergency. Ecuador’s president Daniel Noboa declared a 60-day state of emergency on Monday, a day after the country’s most wanted prisoner disappeared from the prison where he was being held.

The emergency and surrounding events represent one of the first major security tests for Noboa, a young businessman who took office in November and vowed to crack down on levels of violence in the South American country.

Ecuador’s prison agency said there were incidents on Monday in six of the country’s overcrowded prisons, where clashes between rival gangs are frequent and have left more than 400 prisoners dead since 2021.
