Spain Returns Migrants Adrift at Sea

Spain Returns Migrants Adrift at Sea. The rescue of hundreds of migrants adrift in the sea was again carried out by maritime officers in Spain’s Kadaria Islands. At least 132 migrants spread across three ships were rescued.

They were rescued in a number of locations near Fuerte Ventura, Grand Canaria, and Lanzarote in just a few hours. The Spanish Canary Islands are a location often chosen by migrants to land.

53,000 migrants were recorded as arriving in Spain in 2023. 1142 of them died and disappeared at sea. Record migrants arriving in Spain in 2023 make the European Union country the second top migrant destination in Europe just behind Italy
